Frank Erskine Bell OBE was a British educator born on 18 September 1916, known for his remarkable contributions to language education. During his time as a prisoner of war in Borneo during World War II, he established a 'secret university' to educate fellow prisoners. In 1955, he founded the first Bell Language School in Cambridge, England, which laid the foundation for his later work in establishing the Bell Educational Trust, a charity dedicated to language learning.
