Frances Hamilton Arnold is an American chemical engineer and Nobel Prize co-winner. She holds the Linus Pauling Professorship in Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, and Biochemistry at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). In 2018, she was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for her pioneering work in using directed evolution to develop enzymes. Since January 2021, she has served as the external co-chair of the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology under President Joe Biden.
