Franc Ekar is a Slovenian mountaineer, alpine rescuer, mountain guide, skiing teacher, and veteran of the Slovenian War. Born on October 17, 1942, he served as president of the Mountaineering Association of Slovenia and was part of the first expedition to the Hindu Kush. Ekar has completed over 400 climbing ascents, including eight first ascents in the Slovenian Alps. He was also the mayor of Preddvor from 2002 to 2006 and a candidate in the 2011 parliamentary elections for the Liberal Democracy of Slovenia (LDS).
