Farzana Doctor is a Canadian novelist and social worker, born in Zambia on December 16, 1970, to Indian Muslim expatriates. She emigrated to Canada with her family in the early 1970s. Doctor has published two novels and won the 2011 Dayne Ogilvie Prize for Emerging LGBT Writers. Her second novel, "Six Metres of Pavement," won the 2012 Lambda Literary Award for Lesbian Fiction. In addition to her writing career, she works as a psychotherapist and has co-produced a documentary focusing on South Asian immigrant families and LGBT relationships in Toronto.
