Farouk El Okdah is an Egyptian economist and banker, born in 1943 in Daqahlia. He served as the Governor of the Central Bank of Egypt from December 2003, after his appointment by former President Hosni Mubarak. He holds a bachelor's degree from Ain Shams University and earned his master's and doctoral degrees from the University of Pennsylvania. Throughout his career, El Okdah worked in various banking institutions, leading key reforms in the Egyptian banking sector during challenging times. His major initiatives included the integration and privatization of banks to strengthen the financial system.
