Fajez Karam is a retired Lebanese general born on October 17, 1948. He joined the Lebanese army in 1969 and graduated from military academy as a lieutenant in 1972. He held leadership roles, including heading anti-terrorism units and counterintelligence. Karam was imprisoned by Syria during the Lebanese Civil War. After retiring in 1990, he emigrated to France with General Michel Aoun. Both returned after the Cedar Revolution that saw Syrian troops exit Lebanon. In 2005, he ran for parliament and was arrested in 2010 on espionage charges related to Israel.
