Evgeny Yakovlevich Gik was a Soviet and Russian chess player and chess writer, born on May 10, 1943, in Baku and passing away on October 24, 2016, in Moscow. He was a Candidate of Technical Sciences and a Master of Sports of the USSR, achieving this title in 1968. Gik participated in the Soviet Championship in 1967 and won the Moscow Cup in 1971. He authored numerous popular books on chess and other board games, as well as on related mathematical problems and puzzles, totaling 190 works on sports topics.
