Eva Anna Bonsdorff was a Finnish physiologist born on October 17, 1918, in Helsinki. She served at the University of Helsinki from 1949 to 1959 and obtained her medical doctorate in 1953. From 1965 to 1981, she was the chief physician at Forsby medical home, managed by the Helsinki municipality. Notably, in 1948, she rediscovered and named the hormone erythropoietin along with Eeva Jalavisto, a hormone initially described in 1906 by Paul Carnot and Clotilde Deflandre.
