Eugenia Basilewsky (1917-2006) was a notable Swedish yoga teacher of Estonian-Swedish descent. Born in Sevastopol, she moved to Estonia during her childhood. After battling tuberculosis in a German DP camp, she discovered yoga, which aided her recovery. She moved to Sweden in 1951 with her son Alexander and later married Ivan Basilewsky. A dedicated educator, she taught Sanskrit, conducted numerous yoga courses, and played a key role in integrating yoga into Swedish schools. Basilewsky studied with prominent masters and founded Yoga Light Center, serving as president of the Swedish Yoga Teachers' Union for many years.
