Eugene Paul Wigner (1902-1995) was a Hungarian-American theoretical physicist known for his contributions to mathematical physics. He received half of the 1963 Nobel Prize in Physics for his work on the theory of atomic nuclei and elementary particles, particularly through the discovery and application of fundamental symmetry principles. Wigner played a key role in introducing group theory into physics and made significant advancements in pure mathematics, notably his theorem in quantum mechanics. He was involved in the Manhattan Project and later engaged in various governmental advisory roles, becoming increasingly philosophical in his later years.
