Esper Abrão Cavalheiro is a Brazilian researcher and a full member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences in the field of biomedical sciences since March 15, 1993. He served as president of the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq) from 2001 to 2003. He graduated in Medicine from Escola Paulista de Medicina (Unifesp) in 1974 and holds a master's (1976) and doctorate (1978) in Molecular Biology from the same institution. He is a professor focusing on epilepsy and is part of the Human Genome and Stem Cells Research Center.
