Ernest Beutler (1928-2008) was an American physician and biomedical scientist, born in Germany. He made significant discoveries regarding the causes of various diseases, including anemia, Gaucher's disease, iron metabolism disorders, and Tay-Sachs disease. Beutler was also a pioneer in several medical treatments, particularly in bone marrow transplant techniques. From 1979 until 2008, he served as a professor and then as the head of the Department of Molecular and Experimental Medicine at the Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, California.
