Erling Christian Øverland Selvig is a prominent Norwegian legal scholar and judge born on August 23, 1931. He completed his secondary education in Levanger and earned a law degree from the University of Oslo in 1957. He later achieved a Master of Comparative Law from the University of Michigan. Selvig served as a professor at the University of Oslo from 1968 to 2001 and held key positions including dean of the Faculty of Law. He chaired committees at the United Nations and was decorated as a Commander of the Royal Norwegian Order of St. Olav in 2003.
