Erlendur Pætur Patursson was a Faroese politician and author, born on August 20, 1913, in Kirkjubøur. He became a cand.polit in 1940 and was instrumental in founding the leftist Tjóðveldi party. Patursson served in the Lagtinget from 1958 to 1966 and 1970 to 1986, holding the position of Minister of Fisheries and Finance from 1963 to 1967. He was also a member of the Danish Parliament from 1973 to 1977. As an author, he is best known for his five-volume work on Faroese fishing from 1850 to 1970, which earned him a cultural prize in 1981.
