Eric Steven Lander is an American mathematician and geneticist born on February 3, 1957. He serves as a professor of biology at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and as a professor of systems biology at Harvard Medical School. Lander is a former member of the Whitehead Institute and the founding director of the Broad Institute at MIT and Harvard. He was a co-chair of the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology under President Barack Obama and is a recipient of the MacArthur Fellowship in 1987.
