He founded The Mwakigwena Choir Group and gained recognition for his biography titled The Life Of Mzee Ondego, published by Kwani Trust. His notable songs include 'Wimbo huu ni wimbo wa historia' and 'Kenya ni nchi ya ajabu'. In the late 1970s, the Mwakigwena Choir performed for Jomo Kenyatta, the then president of Kenya. Ondego passed away on February 26, 2023, leaving a significant legacy in Kenyan music and literature.
