Émile Lahoud is a Lebanese politician who served as the President of Lebanon from November 24, 1998, to November 23, 2007. He was born on January 12, 1936, and is the son of General Jamil Lahoud, a leader of the liberation movement. Lahoud became the commander of the Lebanese Army in 1989 after the dismissal of General Michel Aoun. He was elected president in 1998 and re-elected in 2004. During his presidency, he supported the Lebanese resistance, opposed foreign intervention, and faced controversies involving detaining Islamist militants.
