Émile Janier (1909-1958) was a French orientalist specializing in Arabic and Berber studies. Born in Dame-Marie on December 25, 1909, he died in Tlemcen, Algeria, on January 12, 1958. Janier was a Catholic militant and intellectual, a disciple of Louis Massignon, and a key figure in North African social teams in the 1930s. He was the last director of the Médersa de Tlemcen (1945-1951) and authored several studies on archaeology, epigraphy, history, and sociology in Tlemcen and Oran, as well as political essays under the pseudonym Paul-Émile Sarrasin.
