He was a member of the National Socialist German Workers' Party (NSDAP) and served as the mayor of Pirmasens from 1937 until the end of World War II in 1945. His political career was closely associated with the Nazi regime, which impacted many facets of governance in Germany during that period. Gauer passed away on November 10, 1991.
