Emanuel Hurwitz (7 May 1919 – 19 November 2006) was a British violinist renowned for his musical contributions. Born to Russian-Jewish parents in London, he began playing the violin at five and later attended the Royal Academy of Music. During WWII, he served with the Royal Army Medical Corps. He founded the Hurwitz String Quartet and led the English Chamber Orchestra, as well as the Melos Ensemble. Hurwitz also led the New Philharmonia Orchestra and the Aeolian Quartet. He was honored as a Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1978.
