He won the gold medal in the 67 kg weight category at the 1956 Summer Olympics and placed fourth at the 1960 Rome Olympics after losing to American wrestler Douglas Blubaugh. After retiring in 1961, he entered Iranian politics and created a film company, starring in his autobiographical film 'Mazandaran Tiger' and three other films.
