Ellen Ringström, born Schölermann on April 19, 1933, in Hamburg, was a German-Swedish waitress who immigrated to Sweden in the 1950s. She became notable in 1971 when she resigned from her position at a restaurant in Stockholm’s central station in protest against the headwaiter's directive for waitresses to wear shorts. Ringström famously stated that if her body was viewed as capital, she deserved appropriate pay. Her story inspired a song by Suzanne Osten, and she later served on the board of Folket i Bild/Kulturfront.
