Elizabeth 'Betty' Depelsenaire was a Belgian communist, lawyer, and women's rights activist born on August 23, 1913, in Bonheiden. During World War II, she was a member of the anti-Nazi group Rote Kapelle in Belgium, providing shelter and assistance to members of the Soviet spy network led by Konstantin Jeffremov. She was arrested multiple times due to her activities and was imprisoned in Bützow. Depelsenaire was one of the few women incarcerated in Fort Breendonk during the war. After the war, she returned to Belgium and worked as a lawyer, documenting her experiences in 1946.
