Elie Wiesel (30 September 1928 – 2 July 2016) was a Romanian-born American Jewish writer, professor, political activist, Nobel Prize laureate, and Holocaust survivor. He authored 57 books, primarily in French and English, including 'Night', which recounted his experiences in Auschwitz and Buchenwald concentration camps. Wiesel served as a professor of literature and philosophy at Boston University, where he established the Elie Wiesel Center for Jewish Studies. He was actively involved in human rights movements and received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1986 for his efforts in promoting peace and dignity for humanity.
