Élida Rosa Aponte Sánchez is a Venezuelan lesbian feminist jurist and expert in women's human rights. She is notably recognized for her research on gender-based violence in Venezuela. Aponte served as the Coordinator of Gender Studies at the University of Zulia's Institute of Philosophy of Law and was the head of Agrarian Law Chair. From 2009 to 2010, she acted as Deputy Minister of Political Gender Transsexuality in the National Women's Institute during Hugo Chávez's controversial government. She currently resides in Orlando, Florida with her partner Yannet Romero.
