Edward A. Halbach was an American amateur astronomer born on April 5, 1909, who made significant contributions to the field of variable star observation. He developed his interest in astronomy in 1933 and soon became a member of the American Association of Variable Star Observers. Halbach also played a key role in the Milwaukee Astronomical Society, directing its observatory for 35 years. He was elected as the first official president of the Astronomical League in 1947 and had interests in solar astronomy and occultations.
