Eduard Yefimovich Alekseyev (1937-2021) was a Russian-born ethnomusicologist noted for his extensive field research on traditional Siberian music and other regions of the former Soviet Union. His work explored theoretical issues in music, including mode, intonation, and timbre, as well as sociological aspects of musical perception. Alekseyev chaired the Folklore Commission of the Union of Soviet Composers from 1972 to 1992 and directed the General Theory of Folklore at the Moscow State Institute of Art Studies. He published over 100 works, contributing significantly to the field of ethnomusicology.
