Edmunds Šmits was a Latvian Lutheran pastor born on August 11, 1902, and passed away on February 7, 1984. He served as the vicar of the Riga city deanery and led services at the Mežaparks church in 1940. He was a faculty member at the University of Latvia's Faculty of Theology and held a Doctor of Theology degree. After World War II, he emigrated to Germany and later to the USA, where he became a theology professor at Luther Theological Seminary in Saint Paul, Minnesota.
