Edith Jeanne van Duijn is a Dutch politician from the Labour Party (PvdA). Born on July 13, 1947, in Vlaardingen, she was influenced by her mother, who was also a PvdA council member. After attending a girls' secondary school, she trained as a kindergarten teacher. Van Duijn served as a municipal council member and alderman in Hardinxveld-Giessendam before becoming the mayor of Kortgene in 1983. In 1992, she was appointed mayor of Lochem, a position she held until 2004. She reverted to her maiden name after her divorce in 1996.
