Edgar Wagner is a German lawyer who served as the State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information in Rhineland-Palatinate from April 15, 2007 to September 30, 2015. He studied law in Mainz and Göttingen, passing his exams in 1976 and 1978. Wagner worked as a judge and later in the scientific service of the Rhineland-Palatinate State Parliament, becoming its director in 1994. His tenure in data protection expanded in 2011 to include freedom of information. He was officially succeeded by Dieter Kugelmann on October 1, 2015.
