Eddie Fechter, born John Edwin, was a bar magician known for his performances at the Forks Hotel near Buffalo. He hosted the first Close-up convention in the United States, called 'Fechter's Finger Flinging Frolics,' in 1969. Fechter served in the army during World War II, showcasing his magic skills in special services. After his service, he opened Fechter's Magic Bar but closed it shortly after. He later worked at the V.F.W. and, through savings, opened a bar in 1952, eventually purchasing the Forks Hotel in 1958.
