Edward Almer Ames Jr. was a Virginia lawyer and politician who served as a member of the Virginia General Assembly from 1956 to 1968, representing Virginia's Eastern Shore. An influential figure in the Byrd Organization, Ames played a significant role in the Boatwright Committee, which investigated the NAACP amid the context of Massive Resistance to racial integration. This resistance was a direct response to the landmark Supreme Court ruling in Brown v. Board of Education, which aimed to desegregate public schools in the United States.
