Driss Basri was a Moroccan politician who served as Minister of the Interior from 1979 to 1999. Following the deaths of General Mohamed Oufkir in 1972 and Ahmed Dlimi in 1983, he became the right-hand man to King Hassan II and the second most powerful figure in the regime from the early 1980s to the late 1990s. He is associated with the 'Years of Lead' in Morocco, a period marked by political repression during which it is estimated that around 600 political opponents were killed.
