Doreen Valiente (January 4, 1922 – September 1, 1999) was an influential English Wiccan priestess credited with establishing many of the foundational rituals in Gardnerian Wicca. She published four books on Wicca and related esoteric subjects. Born in Surrey, she began practicing magic as a teenager and later became a prominent figure in the Wiccan community, actively participating in organizations and writing extensively about the religion. Valiente is often referred to as the 'Mother of Modern Witchcraft' for her significant impact on the development and history of Wicca.
