Don J. Briel was an American theologian known for his significant contributions to Catholic education. He held the Blessed John Henry Newman Chair of Liberal Arts at the University of Mary in North Dakota from August 2014 until his death in 2018. Prior to this, Briel founded the Center for Catholic Studies at the University of St. Thomas in Minnesota, where he also served as Director and held the Koch Chair of Catholic Studies from 1993 to 2014. His work focused on integrating faith and learning within a liberal arts framework.
