Dominique de Villepin is a French diplomat, poet, and politician born on November 14, 1953, in Rabat, Morocco. He was a member of the Gaullist party Rassemblement pour la République (RPR) from 1977 to 2002, and later of the Union pour un Mouvement Populaire (UMP). He served as Minister of Foreign Affairs from May 7, 2002, and as Minister of the Interior from March 31, 2004. As Foreign Minister, he opposed the Anglo-American war in Iraq. He became Prime Minister on May 31, 2005, but faced challenges due to controversial labor law reforms affecting youth.
