He began his musical education at the Glinka Choir School and graduated from the Leningrad Conservatory in 1972, specializing in choral conducting, opera-symphonic conducting, and piano. He led the choir at the Leningrad Musical College for ten years, developing a distinctive style characterized by vividness and psychological depth, reinterpreting choral traditions within modern techniques.
