Dieter Skiba is a former officer of the Ministry for State Security (MfS) in East Germany, who is now an active author. He served in the MfS from 1958 to 1990, rising to the rank of lieutenant colonel. Skiba earned a degree in law and later obtained a doctorate. He led the department responsible for the investigation of Nazi and war crimes from 1989 until the MfS's dissolution. He has also contributed to various publications about his former work and appeared as a witness in the documentary series 'Das Erbe der Nazis'.
