Dieter Krauter (1926–2007) was a German microbiologist and the long-time editor of the journal Mikrokosmos. He co-authored the microbiological standard work 'Das Leben im Wassertropfen'. Krauter studied zoology and other subjects at TH Stuttgart and completed his doctorate in 1951 with a thesis on the renal structures of bony fish. He served as editor of Mikrokosmos for 41 years, beginning in the 1951/52 issue, making significant contributions to the field of microbiology.
