Richard Farrelly (1916-1990) was an Irish songwriter, policeman, and poet best known for composing 'The Isle of Innisfree.' Leaving Kells, County Meath for Dublin at 23, he joined the Irish Police Force, served for thirty-eight years, and retired as a pay Sergeant. A modest and private individual, he authored over two hundred songs and poems. He married Anne Lowry in 1955, with whom he had five children, including professional musicians Dick and Gerard.
