Dingines Cornelis (Dick) Bouwense was a prominent Dutch politician who served as mayor of Sint-Maartensdijk and Scherpenisse from December 16, 1948, to July 1, 1971. He was born on September 24, 1908, in Middelburg and resided in Sint-Maartensdijk. Prior to his political career, Bouwense was an officer in the Marinestoomvaartdienst and served during World War II as a liaison officer for the Ordedienst, where he displayed remarkable bravery. For his courageous act, he received the Kruis van Verdienste in 1954.
