Diana Samgina (1942 – 2002) was a prominent scientist in the field of mycology. She was born in Moscow and educated at Kazakh National University, graduating in 1965. From 1966 to 2002, she worked at the Botanical Institute, focusing on the taxonomy, anatomy, morphology, and distribution of agaric fungi found in Kazakhstan. Samgina contributed significantly to the national herbarium and was a key author of a 13-volume work on the flora of spore plants in Kazakhstan, which earned her a State Prize in 1987. She was also a national coordinator for a project in 2000.
