Dewey Readmore Books was the beloved cat of the Spencer Public Library in Iowa, adopted after being abandoned in a library book drop in January 1988. He gained local fame, which soon spread nationally and internationally, making appearances on various media including a radio program and a Japanese documentary. After his passing in December 2006, his obituary was featured in over 270 newspapers worldwide. His caretaker, librarian Vicki Myron, authored a bestselling book about him in 2008 that was translated into many languages and adapted for children.
