David Washbrook (1948 – January 25, 2021) was a British historian and writer who specialized in modern India, focusing on the economic, political, and social conditions of South India from the 18th to the 20th century. He served as the director of the Indian Studies Centre and was a member of the School of Oriental Studies at the University of Oxford. Later, he became a research professor and fellow of South Asian history at Trinity College, University of Cambridge.
