David Warburton was an English cricketer and Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve officer born in Huddersfield on May 30, 1919. He attended Leeds Grammar School and Brasenose College, Oxford, where he played a single first-class cricket match for Oxford University in 1939. Warburton served in WWII, initially as a sergeant and later as a flying officer. He tragically died in a friendly fire incident on February 4, 1941, while training Polish and British aircrew in a Wellington bomber over Crewe. He is buried in Wiltshire, near his family home.
