David Vincent Hooper (August 13, 1915 - May 1998) was a British chess player and writer, born in Rhyll. He was notable for tying for fifth place in the British Chess Championship in 1949 and became the British Correspondence Chess Champion in 1944. Hooper won the London Chess Championship in 1948 and represented his country in the 1952 Chess Olympiad in Helsinki. He was an expert on endgames and 19th-century chess history, known for his books including 'Oxford Chess Champion' (1992) and 'A Pocket Guide to Chess Endings' (1970).
