David Storm Rice was a British art historian and archaeologist, born on March 28, 1913, in Schönbrunn and died on April 19, 1962, in London. He is notably recognized for his studies of Islamic art, particularly for his work on the Baptistery of Saint Louis. Rice excavated the ancient site of Harran in Turkey between 1951 and 1959, where he discovered a ruined mosque featuring reused ancient stelae from Nabonidus, the last king of Babylon, which confirmed the identification of the site with the biblical city of Haran.
