David Hersh Solkin is a prominent art historian, currently the Walter H. Annenberg Professor of the History of Art at the Courtauld Institute, a position he has held since 1986. He served as the first dean and deputy director of the institute starting in 2007 and is known for his expertise in the works of J. M. W. Turner. Solkin completed his education at Harvard College, the Courtauld Institute of Art, and Yale University, obtaining his PhD in 1978. He received the William M. B. Berger Prize in 2002 for his contribution to the exhibition 'Art on The Line.'
