David "Dave" Musser is a professor emeritus of computer science at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in New York. He is recognized for his contributions to generic programming, especially in C++, and his collaboration with Alexander Stepanov, including coining the term "generic programming" and developing the C++ Standard Template Library (STL). Musser also created the introsort sorting algorithm and introselect selection algorithm to ensure efficient performance in STL. He retired in 2007.
