David Ellis Lardner was an American editor, movie critic, and war correspondent for The New Yorker. He was born on March 11, 1919, and was the fourth son of humorist Ring Lardner. Lardner served as a war correspondent during World War II and tragically lost his life on October 19, 1944, when a land mine exploded under his jeep while he was covering the conflict in Europe. His time in Europe lasted four months before his untimely death.
